“Have I put my trust in money or felt secure because of my God?”

                                                                                 Job 31:24

One reason we have so much trouble trusting God is because we cannot see him, whereas everything in the world is very visible.  We can see the stack of money on our dresser, or the car in the driveway, or the wardrobe in our closet, but we struggle to see the hand of God at work in our lives.

Idolatry has been the constant temptation of people throughout human history. Never quite satisfied with an invisible God, we make gods that we can see. And once we’ve constructed a physical god, we have a god we feel comfortable manipulating for our own selfish ends.

The God of the Bible loves us too much not to warn us about the pitfalls of physical things. It is as if he’s shouting to us “I, the invisible God, made the visible, not the other way around.”

When the things of this world pass away, what will we have? Will we have souls ready for heaven? Or will we die clutching our boat, power tools, or stereo system?

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

“THINGS ARE TO BE USED

AND GOD IS TO BE LOVED.

WE GET INTO TROUBLE

WHEN WE BEGIN TO USE

GOD AND LOVE THINGS.”
